This also means that the color palette can be quiet without letting the painting slip away into the background. The strong vertical composition is another link to these old forms, and by shading the right hand side of the image with a dark shadow and allowing light to fall on the rustic brown and yellow tone on the left, the image is given body, weight and presence, as it is where a carved stone object hanging on the wall. The convalescence of texture, color and composition makes this artwork atmospheric and gives it great depth.
