The ideas of the French Pointillists inspire this painting. Building up many layers of small dots of paint was the method used to create the striking overall effect of this painting on canvas. The French Pointillists were the first artists who used this technique to construct images. Instead of painting lines and areas of colors, they used only dots. This took a long time, but it gave great depth to their artworks and the same effect has been recreated here. The areas of color sweep across the surface of the canvas and show a warm sense of movement over the abstract painting. This movement could be representative of many different changes, but the abstract nature of the artwork never reveals one singular reading. The thick impasto paint, daubed generously with a well-worn palette knife, ebbs and flows like the turning of the tide. The warm hues are designed to give out a welcoming and inviting atmosphere, and the vertically divided composition holds the different influences, colors and textures together in this alluring and captivating artwork.
