The dark red and brown earth is covered by shadow, whilst the sky is lit up by the majestic fading pink and purple rays of the last embers of the sun. This is the time when the animals come out and the calls and howling begins. The shaded trunk of the tree also acts as a link between the earth and the sky. The expertly painted calm green leaves on the tree expertly balance the reddish tinge of the warm light of dusk. The painting is textured and its brushwork varied. This breathes further life into the different parts of the painting that they represent. For example, the leaves are painted in a soft and dappled fashion, whilst the earth is thick with clod of paint and texture. The sky itself is clear as it waits for the stars to appear.
